What is an STI Screen?

At Trinity Clinic, we offer discreet and confidential STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) Screens. We provide a range of options to suit your needs.

The main STIs that we screen for are Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphillis, Trichomonas, Genital Herpes and Genital Warts. We also test for HIV, Hepatitis B and  Hepatitis C. Other non-sexually transmitted infections, such as Thrush or Bacterial Vaginosis are sometimes detected, and can be easily treated.

Please note that some STIs do not cause symptoms.

You can request a male or female doctor on booking your appointment.

Routine STI Screen

This includes a doctor taking your medical history and performing a physical exam.

Blood tests are taken for HIV, Syphillis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C (depending on risk).

A Urine sample tests for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. You will be advised to hold your urine for 2 hours before giving the sample to ensure that results are accurate.

Depending on your symptoms, you may have swabs taken. Women may have an endocervical swab, taken from the cervix (neck of the womb.) This is similar to having a cervical smear taken.

MSM (Men who have sex with men) will also have pharyngeal (throat) and rectal swabs taken.

self screen

This screen is offered for patients who do not have symptoms and have not had a recent episode of unprotected sex.

Patients can collect specimen packs from the clinic and drop them back to us for testing.

Male patients can collect a urine container to provide a sample.

Female patients can self test with a lower vaginal swab. For further instructions on how to take a lower vaginal swab, click here

MSM patients can collect and return pharyngeal and rectal swabs, in addition to the urine.

All patients are offered a blood test as above. The blood test will be taken on the same day as you collect the self test kit.

Please note that a medical history and examination are NOT part of this screen.
